Before the Sphinx: A Giza Initiation Through the Great Pyramid
Some doors in this world are only opened for a few. And some doors, once they open, never fully close again.
You may already know the feeling. You see a photograph of the Great Pyramid, or the weathered face of the Sphinx, and something in your chest tightens. Not curiosity. Recognition. A pull you can leave alone for a while, until you hear a name, or read a sentence, and the longing returns stronger than before.
In the old mystery traditions, Giza was never simply a place to look at. It was a place to pass through. A threshold. An initiation.
In this piece I want to share what Giza initiation means, why the Sphinx and the Great Pyramid have called seekers for thousands of years, and what happened when I stood with my group in that silence, with no one else there but us.
Before the Gates Open
Most visitors meet Giza in the full blaze of the day: crowds, cameras, camel touts, the roar of tour buses. The monuments are still magnificent. But something is lost when the sacred is shared with the noise of the world.
Private access changes everything. When the gates are opened only for your group, the plateau becomes what it was always meant to be: a temple. The stones are no longer a backdrop. They become a presence.
Private access to the pyramid and Sphinx: done. That means only my group has access, no one else. No words can explain this sacred process. I stood experiencing the majesty of the Sphinx, and the incredible energy of that place.
No words can explain it. And yet I’ll try, because I believe that somewhere inside you, the words already exist.
The Sphinx: Guardian of the Threshold
The Sphinx has the body of a lion and the head of a human. Strength and consciousness. Instinct and intelligence. The animal and the divine, sitting together in perfect stillness, facing the rising sun.
In the esoteric teachings I follow, including the work collected in Lisa Renee’s Ascension Glossary, ancient sacred sites are described as part of a living planetary grid: places where energy, memory and consciousness are stored and can be reactivated. The Sphinx is often spoken of as a guardian, a keeper of records, watching over a doorway that only opens when the seeker is ready.
Whether you hold these teachings literally or symbolically, the invitation is the same. The guardian does not ask whether you have a ticket. It asks whether you are willing. Willing to put down who you thought you were, and step through as who you really are.
The Great Pyramid: A Chamber of Resonance
For centuries we were told the pyramids were tombs. Many seekers have always sensed something else. What if their true purpose involved energy, resonance and something far stranger than we’ve been taught?
The mystery schools spoke of the pyramid as an instrument: a chamber where sound, geometry and stone work together to shift consciousness. To enter is to be tuned, like a string brought back into harmony.
You don’t need to know the measurements or the theories to feel it. Your body knows. The pressure in your ears. The heat in your hands. The tears that arrive without explanation. These are the signs of an initiation happening below the level of thought.
Inside the Meidum Pyramid in Fayoum, something fascinating happened. And at Giza: what a day! OPA HABIBI!
I love that those two things sit side by side. The fascination, the mystery, the sacred. And the pure, wild joy. Egypt holds both. Initiation is not only solemn. Sometimes it arrives as laughter that won’t stop and a heart flung wide open.
What Giza Initiation Actually Means
An initiation is not a performance or a box you tick. It is a turning point, after which you cannot pretend you don’t know what you now know. At Giza, the traditions describe three movements:
- Stillness at the threshold. Before the Sphinx, you are asked to arrive fully. Present. Unhurried. The mind quietens and the deeper self steps forward.
- Descent and resonance. Inside the pyramid, the outer world falls away. Old patterns loosen. What no longer belongs to you is asked to leave.
- Emergence. You walk back into the light changed. Perhaps not in ways you can name yet. But something has been activated that will keep unfolding for months and years to come.
This is why, in the language of the teachings I work with, we speak of dormant codes activating through an encounter with a place, a sound, an experience. A vibrational key finding its lock.
Giza Is Only the Beginning
Giza opens the door. The rest of Egypt walks you through it.
On my journey, the activations kept coming. At the Isis Temple: wow, so stunning, with huge activation and ascension symptoms. At the Temple of Hathor at Dendera, a divine healing process connected to the high priestess. Activations, healing, Atlantis and birthing. Words cannot explain.
And between the temples, there was joy. Dancing and singing in the 4WD with my clients and our Egyptian team as we drove through the desert, everyone joining in. Sand surfing on the dunes. Hot air ballooning over the Valley of the Kings, speechless. A galabaya party on the Nile. Joy is not a distraction from the sacred. Joy is how the body says yes to it.
Is Giza Calling You?
Perhaps you’re thinking of something now. That fascination you rarely talk about. The experience you’ve never quite found words for. The work you’d love to bring into the world, if you could see how all the pieces fit.
You might be ready for a Giza initiation if:
- You have felt drawn to the Sphinx or the pyramids for as long as you can remember
- You sense you are at a threshold in your life, your work or your spiritual path
- You want more than sightseeing: you want to experience Egypt’s sacred sites in silence and privacy
- You are ready to let something old end so something true can begin
