Atlantis in Egypt? The Lost Lineage Behind the Temples
Plato said the story came from Egyptian priests at Sais. Whatever you believe, the priests are still whispering.
Atlantis is perhaps the most famous lost civilisation in the world. A great island empire, advanced and powerful, swallowed by the sea in a single day and night. And from the very beginning, its story has been tied to Egypt.
In this article we’ll explore where the Atlantis story actually comes from, why it is linked with Egypt, how esoteric traditions developed it, what Lisa Renee’s Ascension Glossary teaches, and how to hold all of this with discernment.
Where the Story Comes From: Plato
Atlantis first appears in two dialogues by the Greek philosopher Plato, the Timaeus and the Critias, written around 360 BCE. In them, the character Critias tells a story that he says was passed down from the Athenian statesman Solon.
According to the story, Solon visited the Egyptian city of Sais in the Nile Delta, where priests of the goddess Neith told him that the Greeks were like children, with no memory of ancient times. The priests described a great power called Atlantis, beyond the Pillars of Heracles, which waged war on Athens some nine thousand years before Solon. Atlantis was then destroyed by earthquakes and floods and sank into the sea.
Most historians regard the story as a philosophical myth created by Plato to illustrate his ideas about the ideal state. No archaeological evidence of Atlantis has been found. But the fact that Plato placed its source in Egypt shows how the Greeks saw Egypt: as the keeper of humanity’s oldest memory.
Sais and the Goddess Neith
Sais was a real and important city, especially as the capital of Egypt’s Twenty-Sixth Dynasty. Its patron, Neith, was one of Egypt’s oldest goddesses, associated with creation, weaving and wisdom. Greek writers linked her with Athena. Today little remains of Sais. Like Atlantis, it is a place of memory more than stone.
Esoteric Atlantean Stories
From the nineteenth century onward, esoteric writers expanded Plato’s tale into vast histories. Ignatius Donnelly argued in 1882 that Atlantis was the source of world civilisations. Theosophists described Atlanteans as an earlier root race. The psychic Edgar Cayce described Atlanteans fleeing to Egypt and storing their records near the Sphinx, which I explore in The Sphinx and the Hall of Records.
These stories belong to the mystery tradition. They are not history. Yet they continue to resonate with many seekers who feel an inexplicable familiarity with Atlantis.
Lisa Renee’s Teaching
In Lisa Renee’s Ascension Glossary, Atlantis appears within a larger cosmology of planetary history, including a cataclysmic Atlantian flood and its effects on the Giza stargate and humanity’s consciousness. She presents this as esoteric history; I share it as her teaching, not as established fact. You can read more about her view of Giza in Giza as the Heart of the Earth.
Atlantis in My Own Journey
I didn’t go to Egypt looking for Atlantis. But the word arrived anyway. At the Temple of Hathor at Dendera, I wrote:
A divine healing process connected to the high priestess. Activations, healing, Atlantis and birthing. Words cannot explain.
I can’t explain it either. I only know that it was part of the experience, and that it felt like a thread of memory rather than a fantasy. Read more about Dendera in Dendera Temple of Hathor.
The Importance of Discernment
When we explore lost civilisations, it’s easy to get carried away. Discernment means holding several things at once:
- History: what the evidence shows.
- Myth: what stories have meant to people across time.
- Esoteric teaching: what particular teachers propose, attributed clearly.
- Personal experience: what you feel, honoured without needing to prove it to anyone.
Lisa Renee herself often encourages discernment about spiritual information. I share that spirit. Hold what resonates. Let go of what doesn’t.
Why Atlantis Still Matters
Whether Atlantis existed or not, its story carries a teaching: civilisations rise and fall; power without wisdom leads to collapse; and what is lost can be remembered. For seekers, that is a mirror. What in you has sunk beneath the waves? What wisdom are you ready to remember?
A Practice: The Sais Question
- Imagine yourself as Solon, sitting with the priests of Sais.
- Hear them say: “You are young in soul. You have forgotten.”
- Ask them: what have I forgotten?
- Listen. Write what comes, without judgement.

Signs Atlantis Is Calling You
- You feel an unexplained familiarity with Atlantis or lost civilisations
- Water, floods or sinking lands appear in your dreams
- You are drawn to crystals, sacred geometry or ancient technology
- You sense your gifts were once honoured, and are waiting to be again
If these feel familiar, approach them with curiosity rather than certainty. Write down your impressions. Notice which stories resonate and which feel borrowed. Over time, you’ll begin to sense the difference between imagination and memory, and you’ll learn to trust your own discernment.
And remember that whatever you discover, the point is not to live in the past. It is to bring forward the wisdom that serves your life, your work and your Great Work today.
